We grew up in L.A. – weaned on reggae and schooled by hip hop, sustained by cumbia and blown away by jungle. We were obsessed with semi-permeable membranes – the point where Koreatown runs into Little Salvador, or Little Armenia morphs into Thai Town. Where Jamaican Dub melts into North African Gnawa Trance, and British Drum N' Bass collides with Panamanian Reggaeton. A border town, with innumerable borders – rayas – to be crossed.

Launched in 2004, Raya Records is unearthing L.A.'s experimental reggae underground – the sound of a thousand restless diasporas, trampling with wanderlust and hunger across the globe, carrying with them memories of their storied musical past, and a fascination with their present sonic surroundings.
